After reading Blogdorf's extensive trials of gel eyeliner, I was curious to try one out for myself. I haven't had great success with liquid eyeliner, but I thought gel/cream might be more maneuverable. So, when I got a little pot of MAC Fluidline in Blacktrack in a make-up set for Christmas, I was overjoyed!
I have had some time to play around with it and am getting better at creating an even application. I have been using the MAC 209 brush that came with the set.
It has the tiniest tip and is good for "tightlining" (a new word I picked up on Blogdorf's blog) or lining right up on the lash line. It does take a steady hand, but if I hold my forearm with my opposite hand and go slowly, I come out with a decent result.
The Fluidline stays on all day and doesn't smudge, fade or flake. Blacktrack is a true black and is great, but I also wanted to try a brownish color, so I bought Dipdown over the weekend.
Dipdown is really more my speed. I love brown eye make-up. It's so much more forgiving and less vampy, which is great for everyday wear.
And let's not forget the packaging. Fluidline comes in a small glass pot with a black plastic screw-on lid. Its weight is substantial for such a tiny container and it feels classy and special.
Fluidline comes in a myriad of other hues, but as the beauty assistant at the MAC counter said, they are more "disco" colors. I don't think I need opaque green eyeliner at the moment. (But never say never.)
Fluidline is great for those weekend days when you have more time to achieve perfect application. I don't think I would use it during the week, because I usually have about 20 seconds for eye make-up on, say, a Tuesday morning. But I will look forward to using it on Saturdays when I can stretch out my beauty routine and allow for such indulgences. (Much like sectioning my hair to blow dry, flat-ironing, eyelash curling, painting my nails, etc, etc.)
