Whenever I drive up Greenwood, I look to see what's happening with Leilani Lanes. Since the day they closed down (a sad day, indeed), I have been wondering what's going to happen to the building. They have left it standing for quite a while, although I saw a proposed land use sign that said that there are going be apartments built on the site.

Well folks, the day of demolition has finally come. I saw wrecking crews there last Tuesday, so I took a few photos of the carnage.

As I walked around, I remembered all the nights of karaoke, birthday celebrations (I had my 29th birthday party there, as it happens) and the handful of times we actually bowled there. I also thought of how my aunt told me
she used to bowl there back in the day. (And by "the day", I mean the 50s.)
It's not there isn't an assload of other karaoke options in the hood, but none of them are quite the same as Leilani. I usually don't have a problem with new condos and apartments replacing decrepit old buildings (the demise of Thrifko is a prime example), but this is different because it's someplace that was important to me. Funny how that works.
So, goodbye, Leilani.

At least we've still got the Baronof.

What a sad shot of the bowling pin sign hovering above the remains of the place.
I used to love the bowling pin fountain in the lobby.
I know! That was a cool fountain. Leilani was a wonderful place. I sang "Back in Black" by AC/DC there one night (and by "sang" I mean shrieked) and I didn't think I'd ever get the full use of my voice back. Good times.
The pizza joint in Ballard, Snoose Junction, recycled a lot of the lanes from Leilani! Every table surface in there is made from the lanes. We should all go there one night and reminisce.
That sounds really cool! Maybe we can all go there the weekend after Thanksgiving? Let's keep in touch about that!
