Aaron and I started watching the show "Weeds" on DVD the other night. I love it! Mary-Louise Parker is brilliant. Her character, Nancy, recently lost her husband to a heart attack and is trying to pick up the pieces and be there for her two sons. To afford their affluent suburban lifestyle, she starts dealing weed, hence the name of the program. It sounds like a plot line that could be a one trick pony, but it is really a dynamic look at suburban family life and its many nuances. What I really like about "Weeds" is that seems very real. Nancy's sons, Silas and Shane are both in school and dealing with typical school problems. Silas has a girlfriend and has issues with her (like where to have sex where they won't get caught) and Shane is a sweet little kid that gets teased by the hot shot bratty superstar on his soccer team. Very easy to relate to.
The other great thing about "Weeds" is that there are a lot of supporting characters that add flavor to the show. Keven Nealon plays Nancy's accountant, who also likes to smoke a bowl every now and then. Elizabeth Perkins is Silas' girlfriend's mother "Celia", who reminds me a lot of Annette Benning's character in "American Beauty" - bitchy, insecure and bitter, but also pretty funny.
The most amusing characters on "Weeds" are Nancy's pot suppliers, Heylia, Conrad and Indigo. I've only seen two episodes so far, but in the second episode, Nancy has to put her SUV down for collateral because she can't pay right then for her, uh, supplies. But she doesn't have any way to drive home without her SUV. So Heylia tells Conrad to give Nancy the keys to his car. Indigo snorts, "A white lady in the hoopty?" I was laughing so hard that I couldn't hear the next few sentences of the show.
So, not only is "Weeds" an excellent show that I look forward to seeing more of, but it's also a good distraction from the fact that the next season of "Entourage" isn't out on DVD yet.

Kevin Nealon is funny as Hell as the stoner CPA and Season II just came out on DVD.
Sweet! I'm glad season 2 is out already - that's like money in the bank. :-)
We just finished Season 2...and dammit! Cliff hanger. We love it too!
Ooooh, don't tell me what happens! :-) We're still on season one. We watched about 4 episodes back-to-back last night. I can't get enough!
