Enid Collins

My brother sent me a link for this purse on Craigslist with the email subject line: "junco?". You see, my Grandma (my Dad's mom) used to write us long letters when we were little about the weather and birds that she saw in her yard. She often commented on the juncos, which we had never heard of, but found the word hysterical (we didn't have cable when we were little, so we were easily amused). It kind of became a family joke, so I got a good chuckle from the email.

After I stopped chortling to myself, I had a closer look at the bag. It inspired me to look up vintage bags on e-bay, and what did I find? More bags like the one my brother sent me. There were tons by the same designer: Enid Collins. Have you heard of her? Apparently, she's from Texas and designed really cool handbags in the 60s.

I did a quick image search on Google and found this person's Flickr set of her handbags. I think I'm in love! I am coveting them all! I especially like the Owl and the Pussycat and the fish purse, but damn, they're all great!

Some of the Enid Collins bucket style purses that I found online might a little too bedazzled for some, but the box style purses are fabulous across the board!

So, while my little brother is trolling e-bay for a Lego Exxon gas station, I'll be drooling over the Enid Collins handbags!
