Is Bear the next James Frey?

I watch Bear Grylls on "Man vs. Wild" on Discovery whenever I come across it (they seem to do back to back episodes a lot). Aaron likes "Survivorman" better, but I find Les Stroud to be a little boring. I like Bear's enthusiasm and it doesn't hurt that he's pretty easy on the eyes. Sooo, I was very disappointed to hear about the scandal surrounding the show! (Apparently, it's called "Born Survivor" in the UK.)

There are allegations that Bear stayed in a luxury hotel when he was supposed to be out roughing it, that his crew left supplies for him to make a raft (instead of how it appeared that he just found all the bamboo and vines, etc), and that he purportedly tried to lasso wild horses, but in reality, the horses were really tame and placed there just for the show.

When I told Aaron about this horrible news, he said that's why "Survivorman" is the superior show, because Les Stroud does all his own filming and is really by himself out in the middle of nowhere. (Yes, but he's not hot.) We both agreed, though, that Oprah is going to be pissed when she hears about this situation! First James Frey and now Bear? What is this world coming to? What's next? We'll find out that Nate Berkus isn't really a gay decorator?

I'm really sad about this Bear debacle. I hope he and his team can figure out a way to spin this into a positive light. Otherwise, we might have to upgrade our cable package so that I can watch quality programming like the Metal Marathon on VH1 Classics.
