I just finished reading the book "Confessions of a Memory Eater" by Pagan Kennedy. Not only does it have a great title, but it's also an engrossing read. It's about a guy named Win, who is introduced to a drug called "Mem" by an old college friend. The drug allows Win to go back in time and be inside his "then" body to re-live memories of past experiences in his life. But, meanwhile, behind the scenes, things are falling apart. His life turns into a shit sandwich before his eyes. Or does it? I think the things that seem like they went bad were really just things that he needed to change anyway.
I found the conclusion of the story to be a bit of a letdown, though. But I guess that's fitting, because it's a book about drugs, so the ending is sort of like coming down off a high and getting back to reality.
However, as I was reading, I had to keep stopping and imagining what I would do if the drug, Mem, were real. Would I take it? If I took it, what memories would I revisit?
Would you take Mem if you could?
