If you have skin like mine, you notice a "dewy" sheen on your face come lunchtime. I hate looking a middle schooler just hitting puberty, so I like to swab away the oil on my face as soon as it appears. I have tried a lot of the blotting papers on the market, and I'm not really excited about any of them. Let's be honest, seeing a grease spot originating from your skin that resembles the bottom of a donut bag is pretty gross. So, I have a cheap, environmentally friendly and less disgusting alternative: make your own blotting squares. To do this, you will need some flannel fabric (a quarter of a yard is probably enough) and some pinking shears. (Regular scissors will work, too, but pinked edges will keep the fabric from unraveling as much.) All you have to do is cut the fabric into squares and voila! You can blot until your heart's content. The squares are washable, too, so you can use them again and again. Then you'll have more money left over for Marimekko fabric and faux suede curtain panels. (And by "you", I mean me.)
