In the past couple years, a smattering of 70s tv shows have been re-made as movies..."Dukes of Hazzard" being the most recent. Before the Duke boys were brought back to life by Johnny Knoxville and Seann William Scott, there was "Starsky and Hutch" and "Charlie's Angels I and II". What I want to know is, when the hell are they going to do a feature length film of CHiPs? I want some Ponch and John action. I just read online that there are rumors that a CHiPs film might be made and might cast Matthew Perry. WTF? I mean, "Friends" was a great show, but come on! Would they cast David Schwimmer as Ponch? Perish the thought...
If you ask me, I think John could be played by Owen Wilson and Poncherello could be played by Benicio del Toro. Hmmm, perhaps Benicio would lend too much of gritty feel to the role. Maybe we could have Nick Lahey play John and Ricky Martin play Ponch. I know, I know, they're singers, but famous people think that if they can model, then they can act, or if they can act then they sing, so I'm sure it wouldn't be too much of a stretch. We're not looking for an Oscar performance here, people. This is still CHiPs and not the freakin' "English Patient". (God that movie was boring.)
Next, we'd need a hot chick to play the lady cop role of Bonnie. I think that Drew Barrymore or Cameron Diaz would be good. We'd need to cast someone as Sarge, too. Maybe Will Ferrel? There was also a dippy officer, but I can't remember his name. Maybe Jack Black could play him.
What do you think? Watch a couple episodes of "CHiPs" on TBS next time you're bored. As soon as you hear the theme song...da da dada da duh nuh nuh nuh nuhnuh nuhnuh...you know what I'm talking about. You'll be hooked and then you'll be wishing, just like me, that "CHiPs" would be resurrected from cable syndication to the big screen. How can you resist Ponch and John in those mirrored aviator sunglasses? Mark my words...it will be next summer's blockbuster hit. The catchy themesong alone will guarantee it.
