So now that Aaron has proposed to me, the wedding planning madness begins! He gave me a silver band as a place holder ring. It says, "Your ring here" on the outside and "Love Always...Aaron" on the inside, which is really sweet. I thought that was a great idea, because he was able to give me a ring, but now I still get to pick out the actual engagement ring.
I started looking online to get an idea of what's out there ring-wise. I saw some truly horrible ring sets on Amazon and vowed to completely rule out anything gold. I'm not into diamond solitaires either - they remind me of the Shane Company advertisements and Tom Shane's droning voice saying, "Get her a diamond pendant this Mother's Day..."
I thought that maybe vintage or estate jewelry would be a good bet. We started off in Fremont at a jewelry store that my friend recommended. They had a beautiful vintage engagement ring, but it was a bit out of our price range. The jeweler suggested that we look around a some more, too, since his store was the first place that we'd visited. They also informed us that they do ring repairs and ring sizing, which is good information to have.
Next, we ventured to downtown Seattle. I had researched a couple places online and wanted to check them out in person. One was called Isadora's and they had nice stuff, but it was so expensive! They suggested that we go to an antique store in the market for some rings that would be more in our price range. They had some rings that were pretty, but nothing that I absolutley loved. I noticed that they did have some nice vintage coats, but Aaron gently steered me back to the task at hand.
I really wanted to go back and just fork out the dough for the vintage ring in Fremont, but Aaron suggested that we think about it. So, after talking to my friends and to my Mom, I have decided to use my Grandma's wedding ring (which my Mom gave me and I have in my hot little hand). I just have to get it re-sized.
For the engagement ring, however, we are still waiting on that. I suggested to Aaron that he could get me engagement boots instead, but he didn't go for that. So, we may do some more looking this weekend. A friend of mine suggested getting a funky ring and then just switching to a simple band after the wedding. I think I might exlpore that possiblity.
Oh my God, I'm turning into one of those girls that goes on and on about wedding stuff. I can't help it. It's like something has clicked out of place in my brain and all that pours out of my mouth is wedding related now! This weekend I'm going to shop for my wedding dress, so stay tuned for that fun saga. I'm looking for something from the early 60s - think Jackie O - so wish me luck!
