Last weekend, my friends and I planned to go to happy hour on Saturday. We started out at Ray's Boathouse in Ballard, but even though we got there at 4pm on the nose (when their happy hour starts), all the tables were full and it didn't look like any of the patrons were planning to leave any time soon. Not very promising for getting your early drink on.
So, we racked our brains and tried to think of somewhere else to go. (Unfortunately, I didn't have my happy hour folder with me. Shame one me. But one of my friends suggested making a purse or pocket size "To Go" reference sheet. A great idea to be sure. Perhaps a trip to Kinko's is in order? We could even laminate the sheet...the options are truly endless at Kinko's.)
Anyway, after some deep thought, we decided to go the Green Lake Bar and Grill, which is right by Green Lake. Coincidence? I think not.
The drinks specials at the Green Lake Bar and Grill are not fantastic, but they won't break the bank. Wells are $3.25 and are a little weak. The beers are somewhat less, but I wasn't in a beer drinkin' mood. The food options are the best deal here. They have an assortment of appetizers for $1.95 and $2.95. What a bargain, right? I got some coconut prawns then I split an order of nachos and an order of mozzarella sticks with my boyfriend. I also split a piece of flourless chocolate cake with raspberry coulis with one of my friends. Then I went and threw up in the bathroom to make room for more. Ha, ha, just kidding! Seriously, the portions were small.
My friend had tabasco and honey chicken wings and I tried one, but it was very messy. My other friend had quesadillas, which she said were a bit bland. My boyfriend had calamari, and he reported that it was just so-so, but I didn't try it because calimari has the texture of deep fried chewing gum.
If I had it to do over again, I would only get the mozzarella sticks and the nachos. It's pretty hard to mess up nachos and how can you go wrong with fried cheese? It's just not possible.
Overall, it's a good deal if you stick with the basics. And it's a great bargain, because after we split it four ways, I only had to pay $16. Not too shabby.
So now I've got money left over for that laminating project.
