Blue C Sushi

This past Saturday, I went to happy hour at Blue C Sushi in Fremont. As I said in my post yesterday, I am on a happy hour crusade.

I invited two of my friends to come along to check things out. I thought they liked sushi, so I figured they could try out the sushi offerings (bleh!) and then we could all check out the cocktail selection.

Lo and behold, they don't like sushi either! So, I told them they could just come over to my house and we would decide from there.

So, as I like to do lately, I whipped out my happy hour folder and looked at the Seattle Weekly review for Blue C Sushi. It turns out that they have hot food, too! Hallelujah! Call me white trash, but I like my fish cooked.

When we got there, I could see that there were conveyor belts with plates of sushi on them running past some of the tables in the restaurant. It reminded me of that episode of "Laverne and Shirley" when they're working in the brewery and put a glove on one of the beer bottles that's going by on the conveyor belt. However, I didn't have any gloves with me, which was probably a good thing.

We made our way up the staircase to the bar and picked out a big booth. The seating is all black leather and the coffee table top was glass and was lighted from inside. It was all very posh and upscale with a hipster vibe.

We looked at the menu and discovered that they have gyoza (pot stickers to you and me), tempura veggies (mmm, just like onion rings!), edamame, and calimari (not my favorite). So we ordered one of each.

Now, here's where we were a little disappointed. The review in the Seattle Weekly said that the beers were all a DOLLAR! I just about fell over when I read that. However, as it turns out, the beers are a dollar OFF. This makes a big difference to a cheapskate like me.

So, I decided turn to the specialty drinks menu. The bartender chooses a different drink special each day, and on Saturday it was a Flirtini. I don't even remember what all was in it, but I know it was pink with raspberries and champagne. Mmmm-mmm good. There was also a drink called a Hello Kitty. You can't go wrong with that. I am hoping that will be on special some other day.

We got to chatting, as girls do, and then our drinks arrived. We squealed with delight at the pink-ness and continued chatting - ok, we were really gossipping, but it wasn't about you.

Then our food came and to my horror, they only supplied us with chopsticks! I am not a master with the chopsticks, but I did my best. Thankfully, we were tucked away in a corner, so nobody could see me floundering about like a being without opposable thumbs. I managed to get some food to my mouth and it was tasty. I would recommend the tempura veggies and the gyoza. The gyoza was so good that we ordered more.

When we were getting ready to leave, we enjoyed the view of the sushi conveyor belts from above, as we leaned over the railing in the bar. It's a work of art to see all that sushi toodling along on different colored plates. It made me want to actually eat some sushi...almost.
